南方科技大學(xué)生物系主頁展示了1962年榮獲諾貝爾醫(yī)學(xué)獎(jiǎng)的Francis Harry Compton Crick說的一句意味深長(zhǎng)的言論：Biologists must always bear in mind that what they see is not designed,but evolved. 直譯漢語意思就是：“所有的生物學(xué)家必須時(shí)刻牢牢記住，所有的發(fā)現(xiàn)不只是簡(jiǎn)單的設(shè)計(jì)而是復(fù)雜的進(jìn)化過程！”以此警示生物科學(xué)家，尊重并敬畏自然規(guī)律。

此前就基因編輯嬰兒事件，南方科技大學(xué)化學(xué)系主頁發(fā)布了中、英雙語的“南方科技大學(xué)生物系全體教授聲明”，具體內(nèi)容如下：

　　近日多家媒體報(bào)道“基因編輯嬰兒”新聞，作為當(dāng)事人的同事，我們對(duì)此事件深感痛心。在法有禁止、倫理逾矩、安全性未經(jīng)充分檢驗(yàn)的情況下，貿(mào)然開展人類胚胎基因編輯的臨床應(yīng)用，嚴(yán)重違背了學(xué)術(shù)規(guī)范和道德倫理，我們對(duì)此表示堅(jiān)決反對(duì)和強(qiáng)烈譴責(zé)。

　　自建系以來，生物系一直注重遵守國(guó)家科研倫理和政策法規(guī)，不斷完善相關(guān)規(guī)章制度。我們懷著敬畏生命、敬畏科學(xué)之心，在規(guī)則允許的范圍內(nèi)，嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)而審慎地進(jìn)行科學(xué)研究，以期讓創(chuàng)新成果更好地造福人類。對(duì)此孤立事件的發(fā)生及其造成的惡劣影響，我們深感遺憾。我們將全力配合學(xué)校以及上級(jí)單位對(duì)此事件進(jìn)行全面調(diào)查，科學(xué)發(fā)展不能把倫理留在身后，法律和道德的底線不容突破。

Joint Statement of All Faculty Members of the Department of Biology　on the “Gene-Edited Baby” Incident

In recent days, media outlets have reported extensively on the “gene-edited baby”. As colleagues of the party concerned, we are deeply saddened by this incident. The clinical application of human embryo genetic editing was rashly carried out despite being prohibited by law and restricted by ethics, and its safety not fully tested. The conduct of the party has seriously violated academic codes of conduct and ethics, and should be resolutely opposed and strongly condemned.

Since its establishment, the Department of Biology has paid careful attention to compliance with pertinent national research codes of conduct, policies and regulations, and is constantly improving related rules and guidelines internally. With a reverence for life and for science, we prudently conduct scientific research maintaining rigorous standards and staying within the scope permitted by the rules, in the hope that our research outcomes and innovations better serve the welfare of mankind. We deeply regret the occurrence of this isolated incident and its adverse effects. We will fully cooperate with the University and the higher authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation of this incident. Scientific advancement must not leave ethics behind, and the line of law and morality must not be crossed.
